How Do You Eradicate A Lethal Ideology?

I recently returned from nine days in Israel, where I had a chance to minister to various groups and join a pastor friend of mine in bringing some of the needed supplies that various Israeli groups were missing. We spent nine days driving around, praying for and with Israelis, and learning more about Hamas than you would ever learn from the News or the internet. Our trip was an eye-opener and a powerful reminder of how much evil is at play right now. We are amid one of the greatest spiritual battles we have ever seen.

The war with Hamas is still ongoing as Hezbollah is threatening Israel in the North. At the present time, more than 80,000 Israelis have been displaced from the North for their own safety. If things don't change very quickly, it will be the same as surrendering the North of Israel to Hezbollah–An Iranian proxy. Things have to change. Yet, when people say that the war against Hamas is almost over, they don't take into consideration that Israel is not only fighting a group of people but also an ideology.

Israel doesn't really have a choice and must completely eradicate Hamas from the Gaza Strip. There is no negotiating, no ceasefire, and no retreating because what is happening in Gaza now is the result of breaking a 17-year-old ceasefire. It was a massive terrorist attack and hostage-taking that is still in progress until all hostages are accounted for. We are finding out that over 70% of Palestinians support Hamas, which is much more than originally estimated.

We spoke with many IDF soldiers and officers during our recent trip to the region. In one case, an IDF soldier saved the life of a Hamas terrorist by bringing him to an Israeli hospital for emergency treatment. Once treated and safe, he was asked by some Israeli soldiers if he saw them in a different light now that they had saved his life and if that would change his perspective. His answer was categorically NO! He had been rescued and kept alive by the very people that he was still focused on killing at any price. There is no possible moral equivalence between an ideology that worships death and one that values life.

When Hamas is fully eradicated, whatever decision the Israeli government makes on how to maintain peace in the Gaza Strip, be it by giving it back to Palestinians, keeping Israeli troops in, or any combination of either or both, the destructive ideology of Hamas will still live and even flourish. After all, they are very open about their goals. So, the question remains: can we truly eradicate Hamas, or is that organization like the Hydra of Lerna, and every time we chop one of its nine heads, one more grows back?

The reality is that this war might last a lot longer than anybody envisioned, and Israel needs to know that we are available to support them emotionally, spiritually, and financially. Just about everyone we met in Israel asked us the same question. They wanted to know why in the world we had come to a war-torn country. We quickly let them know that we were there to support the people and the economy. We found out that not only had tourism come to a halt in Israel since October 7, 2023, but many ministries had also left the country for the time being. Israel needs us the most right now, so when we were there, they were surprised that we were going against the flow. I am not bragging or pointing the finger, but when we showed up, people were surprised and open to finding out why we were there. It was just a matter of telling them that this trip was the most natural thing to do for followers of Yeshua. I know that there will be other trips of the like for members of what we can call "the Remnant Church." Let's briefly look at three ways to support Israel and our Jewish friends:

Emotional Support: Jewish people need our emotional support globally, not just in Israel. October 7 has unleashed antisemitism like never before, and I am convinced that it will not subside but only increase. Your Jewish friend, neighbor, family member, local Synagogue, and Jewish Community Center all need to be reassured that they have friends in an age when the world is increasingly turning anti-Jewish. It might be as simple as a few kind words or gestures like helping with yard work, carrying groceries or running errands. It doesn't take much to show them that you care. Remember that people generally don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. Physically visiting Israel right now would also speak tons to the locals, as we have witnessed during our recent ministry trip.

Spiritual Support: Beyond emotional support, Israel needs our spiritual support. The Bible clearly states that prayer is at the core of God's will for believers. At the very least, we know that Psalm 122:6 tells us, "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: May they prosper who love you." This is foundational. Israel is currently fighting an existential war against Hamas and, soon, possibly Hezbollah. While God has promised never to allow Israel to disappear completely (Zechariah 31:35-37), we know that casualties are inevitable. When we visited the site of the Nova Music Festival (365 butchered by Hamas on October 7), many family members of the victims were there as well. It was a very dark moment that reminded me of my 2010 visit to Auschwitz. Much prayer is needed right now for the families of the victims, the remaining hostages, and the many soldiers being sent to the front every day, not to mention all the decisions made by the Israeli government. While we are at it, we must also pray for Hamas, as we are told in Matthew 5:44: "But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you." I get it: Hamas must be eradicated, but if any of them can find Yeshua, we ought to rejoice if they do.

Financial Support: Finally, as emotional and spiritual support pour in, we must remember that we can also do a lot to help Israel financially. Soldiers are far from being equipped with all that they need for battle, and over 80,000 people have been displaced in the North alone. We can do so much to help people in Israel. Some of us can help financially from where we are, while others can also go to Israel to physically show the people they are loved, prayed for, and sustained through any available financial needs. There are many ways to show financial support, but make sure to vet them before donating. Shalom in Messiah Ministries is committed to helping support and rebuild Israel. We wouldn't see it any other way. Many of you have come alongside us since we started the ministry, and we are blessed and humbled. Let's keep it coming for the people of Israel as we continue to tell them that we do it in the name of Yeshua.

The Spirit of Hamas is the Spirit of Satan and/or the Spirit of the Antichrist. It will never stop because the destruction of all Jews (the apple of God's eye) is their number one goal. We can eradicate people, but we will never eradicate the ideology. Education will always help, but how much education needs to take place to counterbalance all the indoctrination that starts at a very early age?

During our interview with Caroline Glick in Jerusalem, she said something very profound, "The One-State Solution is a euphemism for the Final Solution!" We are truly dealing with a lethal ideology. May we continue to be on God's side regarding our love of Israel.

  1. I am in Israel right now. I work in study tourism. With Hezbollah threatening to attack Israel’s electric grid in a few days, I’m praying about how I can responsibly encourage people to come.

  2. The church can do more than it is doing, in terms of teaching and preaching the truth about Israel and not have a flippant, dismissive attitude toward the Jews. The church needs to stop the replacement theology that has crept into it in the last forty years. Young Christians are not being told the truth. New false narratives are being promulgated. Scripture is being used to fit the new narratives. Even by those with Phd's in theology. Better known as false doctrine and/or false prophecy. And Satan is behind it. So the church needs to do better. Because Jesus said something very interesting,

"And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

    Authority. Keys.
